Long & Short Reach Hedge Cutters

These days there are not many homes that don't need a hedge cutter, but the choice can often be a little confusing, here are what separates the two main types.

Hand-held or "short reach" are held by the operator fairly close to the body, they are ideal for smaller low hedges or shrubs, often easy to handle. Available in single sided and double sided flavours, the single sided cutters are for one-way cutting and shaping, used for more delicate fine work, double sided are for fast cutting of larger hedgerows and cut on both sides.

Long Reach or "pole hedge cutters" are perfect for tall hedgerows, the pro machines offer articulating heads so you can position the blades at a comfortable angle depending on your cut, this allows you to stand away from the hedge when cutting long runs, this often helps to keep lines straight. Long reach hedge trimmers are also easier for topping hedges as you can keep your feet on safe ground - no more ladders or steps!
